Bayleys’ annual Conference and Awards brings together more than 1,000 people to connect, celebrate and recognise what makes the business Altogether Better. Uno Loco brought the theme Altogether Better Energy to life across two distinct experiences at the New Zealand International Convention Centre – a high-energy conference followed by an elegant black-tie awards evening.

Altogether Better Energy was about unlocking the collective force of Bayleys – its people, culture and the energy created when everyone comes together. Our challenge was to weave that theme through two very different events, creating synergy between the Conference and Awards while giving each its own distinct expression. More than a visual identity, we wanted to design an experience where that collective energy could be seen, felt and shared by everyone in the room.
Opportunity
As Bayleys’ first Conference and Awards at the NZICC, the venue gave us an entirely new canvas. From a 10-metre-high LED screen and custom triangular stage in the Te Pae Pae theatre to the expansive Level 3 halls, we had the scale to rethink the experience for 1,000 conference guests and 1,200 awards attendees.
Our response
For the Conference, we created a bold visual language of sliding, interlocking panels, bringing photography, typography and colour together in a vibrant expression of collective energy. The day opened with a high-energy performance from award-winning Identity Dance Co, with choreography and screen content moving seamlessly together.
For the Awards, the energy shifted. Inspired by the Aurora Australis, organic waves of blue and green created a more elegant expression of movement and energy. Linework carried the idea through print and environmental graphics, while immersive motion, reflective surfaces and lighting transformed the halls into an atmospheric black-tie experience.
What made it special
We created two distinct expressions of the same idea – bold and kinetic by day, atmospheric and refined by night. Across stage design, performance, motion, lighting and environmental graphics, Altogether Better Energy became something guests could see and feel – bringing to life the collective energy that makes Bayleys unstoppable together.
